Monitoring plants at Gartmorn Dam

A variety of environmental factors, such as climate change, influence the growth and survival of plants. We are gathering important data on how this might affect plant life in Scotland.

Dendrometers – monitoring tree growth

  • T-shaped dendrometer that measures the swelling and shrinkage of tree trunks or branches with a sub-micrometer resolution.
  • The black sensor plate (190x92x8 mm, 200 g) is screwed into the trunk or branch to be measured, the weatherproof sensor device (135x81x70 mm, 400 g incl. batteries) is strapped around the trunk or branch, connected by a 1 m long cable.
  • Battery-powered, data transmission via LoRaWAN
  • Routine maintenance visits by our technical team required every 6 months.
